At BSMG, you get more than training — you get a competitive edge. Being mentored one-on-one by a working broadcasting professional means you build real skills and real industry contacts at the same time, inside a real radio station near where you live.
This is not a classroom program. There are no lectures, no group assignments, and no simulated studio exercises. You work directly with an experienced on-air professional who coaches you personally — in radio broadcasting, sportscasting, talk show hosting, or news — at a station in your own market, on your own schedule.
BSMG serves students across all 50 states. Wherever you live, there is a station and a mentor near you.
What You Get with BSMG
- Real-World Training. You train inside active, working radio stations — not in a classroom, not on a simulated campus setup. Real equipment, real broadcasts, real environment.
- Local One-on-One Mentorship. Your mentor is a working broadcaster matched to your market and your career goals. This is not a group class. It is a personal coaching relationship inside a station that is already on the air.
- Industry Connections That Open Doors. Broadcasting is a relationship business. From your first day of training, you are inside a local station building the contacts that a college degree simply cannot provide.
- Licensed and Proven Since 2008. BSMG is a BPPE-licensed private postsecondary institution. Students have been placed at working stations including FOX Sports affiliates, ESPN Radio, and outlets nationwide.
About BSMG
BSMG — Broadcasters and Sportscasters Mentoring Group — is a nationwide broadcasting school serving students across all 50 states. Though headquartered in California, BSMG is not a campus or a classroom. Under founder Michael Madden’s direction, students train one-on-one inside real, working radio stations near where they live — on their own schedule, at stations they choose. Instead of lectures and group assignments, each student learns directly from an experienced on-air professional in radio, sportscasting, talk show hosting, or news. BSMG is the only nationwide on-air broadcasting mentor-apprentice training program currently operating in the United States. Real stations. Real mentors. Real careers.
About the Founder
“You cannot become a successful broadcaster by taking classes or reading a textbook. You need hands-on experience and the right contacts. That is exactly what BSMG is designed to give you — and has been giving students since 2008.”
— Michael Madden, Founder, BSMG
“Michael Madden founded BSMG — Broadcasters & Sportscasters Mentoring Group — on January 2, 2008. He knows what it takes to break into broadcasting because he did it himself. Before launching BSMG, Madden worked as an on-air television talk show host and a play-by-play sports broadcaster. He also served as national basketball coach for the country of St. Kitts.
Madden then spent five years building broadcast training operations for one of the country’s early radio mentorship programs, which helped shape BSMG’s nationwide mentor-apprentice model. He built BSMG to mirror the way the radio industry actually operates. Success in radio requires two things: the skills to do the job and developing relationships that open doors. Inside a real radio station is where both develop.
That is why BSMG trains students one-on-one with a working broadcaster inside a station near where they live. Since 2008, Madden has personally overseen hundreds of student placements in working radio and sports broadcasting stations across all 50 states. His philosophy is Doing What Works — real broadcasters in real stations are the best teachers, not classrooms.”
Is BSMG Right for You?
This program works best for people who learn by doing, want real industry relationships rather than just a credential, and are serious about building a career in broadcasting. If that describes you, the next step is a simple conversation.
